Anyways, gonna copy and paste the translation note here:
“Utsusemi” is written in Hiragana, and it honestly can mean so many things. Sometimes it is (literally) translated as an empty cicada shell, other times it is used to refer to more spiritual and cultural things: it could mean reality (“utsutsu”), or a living being, or the world itself; it could even simply mean emptiness, or how temporal things can be. Without more information about the film’s details, it’s hard for me to give an adequate translation.
